We bake dog treats made from craft beer spent grains, so that craft beer fans can share the flavour with man’s best friend while saving the environment.
‘Engrained’ is owned and operated by me, Cassandra Smith a stay at home mum with a toddler, a beer loving husband that brews beer with his best mate, a Kelpie cross Australian Shepherd.
During 2022 my husband approached me with spent grains from one of his home brews and asked what could I do with them. Early testing (yes on animals – our dog of course) was undertaken early 2023 and initial production for family and friends. Not long after this, the business name was registered.

Our first collaboration is with Common Ground Brewing and we’re super-excited about it. Using byproduct from the brewing process, making Engrained dog treats a sustainable snack.

Every beer consists of water, grain, hops and yeast and every beer recipe includes a version of each of these four ingredients, always the same ingredients. ‘Engrained’ you could say.
